The batches of undergrad students pre-2018 intake are still following the Old GE Curriculum. However, some of the old GE courses are not being offered anymore. Why is this so?
When the UP System decided to revamp all its undergraduate programs in the light of the K-12 Basic Education Program, it followed that the General Education Program would also be revisited. The preparation for the GE Program Review took 2 years, and the actual revision took a good 6 years (yes, we are kidding you not!), and, in spite of protests here and there, was approved in 2017.
The end result was a new GE program framework on which all new GE courses should be anchored. This lent cohesiveness to all the new GE courses currently offered. This also led to the UP System policy that only new GE courses should be offered by 2018.
You may, however, notice that there are several GE courses which were offered pre-2018 which are still being offered now. These are:
- Kas 1
- Soc Sci 2
- Soc Sci 13
- STS (now STS 1)
These old GE courses have been reconfigured in order to follow the 2016 GE Framework.
The other GE courses have been discontinued, in other words, UPOU will not offer them for this year (or until they have been reconfigured). These are:
AH Cluster | SSP Cluster | MST Cluster |
